KEA Power Outage – November 25, 2011

Hartman Substation by Sunrise

At 4:33 p.m. on Friday, November 25, KEA experienced a widespread system outage.  A line crew was dispatched, and determined that an eagle had made contact with the Hartman Substation.  The contact resulted in the shutdown of the Hartman Substation, High Substation, Swampy Substation, and Nyman Substation, and all associated feeders.  Power was restored in 20 minutes to the downtown, Island Lake and Mission Road areas.  Full power was restored to all areas within one hour and nine minutes.

KEA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused, and we thank everyone for their patience.

This is a good reminder that outages do happen, and it’s a very good idea to be prepared.  KEA suggests that you keep an emergency outage kit in an easily accessible place, and make sure that every member of your household knows where to find it.  This is especially important in the cold winter weather and shorter, darker days we are experiencing.
