The employees and directors of Kodiak Electric Association held a canned and dry good food drive on December 9, 2011 as a way of sharing the blessings of the season with community members who may be in need of assistance.
The drive collected a combined weight of 336 pounds of food, filling 12 large boxes. In addition, the employees donated $100 cash and a $135 Safeway gift card to supplement the food items. KEA employees delivered the drive goods to the Salvation Army Food Bank on December 13, 2011.
Salvation Army’s Major Cathy Quinn expressed her appreciation of the donation on behalf of the food bank recipients. She noted that the Food Bank is serving more people than last year here in Kodiak, and is always grateful to accept donations. The Food Bank is currently in need of kid-friendly food, and they can always use peanut butter. Other suggested items are: pop top cans or pouches of meats, seafood, chili, soups, and stews, as well as dry goods such as beef jerky, cup of noodles, macaroni and cheese, top ramen, crackers, oatmeal, cereals, and breakfast bars.
