Thank you to everyone who attended our 71st Annual Membership Meeting on April 22, 2013 in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium! Two hundred and sixty-four (264) members were registered when registration concluded.
The meeting kicked off with Boy Scouts of America Scout Troop #626, let by Scout Master Joe Ferguson, bringing in the colors and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Following a Moment of Silence to honor those serving in the military, KEA employees Rocky Fraser and Katie Heglin introduced the winners of the 2013 Fourth Grade Safety Drawing Contest. They are: Ryan Siscar, Main Elementary School – first place, Alex Hosier, East Elementary School – second place, and Aleena Bravo, East Elementary School – third place. The winning drawings will be on display in our Member Services department for the next year. KEA’s electrical safety program reinforces the importance of electrical safety and is presented to fourth grade classes every year.
Reports were presented by Chairman Cliff Davidson, Secretary/Treasurer Stosh Anderson, and President/CEO Darron Scott. They discussed KEA’s strong financial status, KEA’s innovative “High Penetration Wind Project” incorporating the three new wind turbines and the battery energy storage system, and the third hydro turbine to be installed at the Terror Lake hydroelectric plant in 2013. For the year of 2012, KEA was an outstanding 95.7% renewable energy with stable rates, and had zero system-wide outages during the year. KEA’s new corporate logo in blue, green and black was unveiled, evoking a sense of our environment and progressive wind and water renewable resources through color and design, featuring the silhouette of a wind turbine with mountains and water. Also discussed were potential plans to begin the process to move forward with a new Headquarters building, utilizing KEA’s land fronting Mill Bay Road and adjacent to the Operations and Engineering location. The new Headquarters building will bring all KEA’s employees together in one campus area for increased staffing efficiencies, in a convenient location to better serve our members.
Following Employee and Director Recognition, Scholarship Presentations, Door Prize Drawings, and the Tally Committee’s Presentation on election results, members enjoyed delightful refreshments by Mill Bay Coffee & Pastries in the Kodiak High School Commons.
Mark your calendar and make plans to join us next year for our 72nd Annual Membership Meeting on April 21, 2014!
