Terror Lake Third Turbine Installation Update – September, 2013

The Third Unit Installation at KEA’s Terror Lake Hydroelectric Plant continues to progress well.  The generator portion of the turbine-generator machinery is nearly complete, and KEA is very excited to see the powerhouse evolve as final pieces are put into place.  This new hydropower unit is configured differently than the two existing units, which provides additional generation efficiencies.  The modern design of the Third Unit puts the generator right on top of the turbine portion of the unit, rather than connecting the two portions with a long shaft.  That close-couple design is why the new unit sits between the decks, lower than the other units that were installed 30 years ago.  We are excited about putting the unit in operation later this year.
