The KEA Educational Foundation funds have increased by $10,000, thanks to a wonderful charitable matching grant program offered by CoBank! In this, the third year of the program, your electric cooperative allocated $5,000 from unclaimed capital credits to the KEA Educational Foundation, and received a one-time dollar-for-dollar matching contribution of $5,000 from CoBank. The KEA Board of Directors took action on April 24, 2014 to allocate the funds to the KEA Educational Foundation, and we have now received CoBank’s matching contribution. We have been fortunate to participate at the maximum level all three years the program has been available.
CoBank’s “Sharing Success” Program is designed to celebrate the vital role that cooperatives play in individual communities across the country. Concern for community and cooperation among cooperatives are longstanding cooperative principles.
KEA’s scholarship program was designed to offer financial assistance to selected graduating seniors and continuing education students who show leadership potential and the capacity to make a significant contribution to the Kodiak or Port Lions community upon completion of their formal education.
Our 2015 scholarship applications will become available in mid-December. Since KEA’s first scholarship award in 1990, 286 local students have received financial assistance in attending post-secondary schools, for a total amount of $594,000 in scholarships!
Please call Member Services at 486.7701 if you would like to be involved in helping students reach their post-secondary educational goals by making a donation to the KEA Educational Foundation.
